KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC volleyball (13-7, 4-2) will look to rebound with a pair of WAC road matches this week at Chicago State (7-14, 1-4) and Seattle U (8-10, 1-4). The Roos and Cougars will square-off on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT in Chicago, while the match with the Redhawks is on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT in Seattle.
About the Roos
UMKC enters the match with a 13-7 record overall and a 4-2 mark in WAC play, good for a tie for third in the conference. This season, the Roos have picked up WAC wins over Utah Valley, California Baptist, Chicago State and Grand Canyon. On the year, UMKC has garnered three WAC Player of the Week awards, as Tyrecia Lukes and Melanie Brecka garnered offensive honors and Alex Ratzlaff was named awarded the defensive honor.
About the Opponents
Chicago State comes into the match with a 7-14 mark overall and a 1-4 record in WAC lay after beating Utah Valley, 3-2. In the first meeting between the two squads, Brecka and Lukes paced the UMKC offense with 12 kills apiece, hitting .265 with six blocks and .474 with seven blocks, respectively, while Ratzlaff notched eight kills, hitting .300 and 18 digs. For the Roos, Harrington finished with eight kills and nine digs and Brooke Jacobs added five kills, hitting .264, and three blocks. Rhegan Spiegel, meanwhile, paced the Roos with 19 digs and four assists, while setters Alli Schomers and Kynnedy Myers registered 25 assists and nine digs and 14 assists and six digs, respectively.
Seattle U enters the weekend with an overall record of 8-10 and a mark of 1-4 in Western Athletic Conference play, picking up its lone win over Chicago State. Offensively, four Redhawks sit between 127 and 155 kills, including Sofia Sanchez (155), Rachel Stark (148), Maja Stojanovic (139) and Julia Queiroz (127).
The Blue & Gold return to Kansas City for a Thursday match with Grand Canyon on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. CT.
