PEORIA, Ill. – The UMKC volleyball team heads to Peoria, Ill., to wrap-up its preseason schedule at the CEFCU Invitational, a tournament it won during the 2014 season. The Roos open on Friday at 12:30 p.m. against Connecticut, before taking on host Bradley at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. UMKC then closes out the tournament with a 3:30 p.m. contest against South Dakota State.
About the Roos
UMKC finished with a 2-1 mark in the Kangaroo Klassic, including their first ever win over Northern Iowa and their first ever win over a Big Ten foe when they knocked-off Rutgers. Emma Dyer was named MVP of the tournament, while Alicia Harrington also garnered all-tournament recognition after notching career-high’s in kills, digs and aces against South Dakota. On Tuesday, the Roos fell to K-State after taking the opening set from the Wildcats.
About the Huskies
Connecticut sports a 5-4 record on the season tallying wins over New Hampshire, St. John’s, Iona, Hartford and Albany on the year. Kayla Williams leads the Huskies with 109 kills, to go along with 80 digs, while Kennedy Arundel has a team-high 123 digs in the back row.
About the Braves
Bradley enters the tournament with a 3-7 mark on the season, picking up wins over Memphis, Fort Wayne and Murray State. Erica Haslag leads the Braves’ offense with 196 kills, while hitting .231 and Kathryn Graf leads the defense with 50 blocks. Yavianliz, meanwhile, has a team-best 222 digs.
About the Jackrabbits
South Dakota State comes into the event with a 1-8 record overall, notching their lone win against Milwaukee in the season opener. Makenzie Hennen (77) and Sierra Peterson (76) leads the Jackrabbit offense, while Ellie Benson is tops on the team with 112 digs.
The Roos return to Kansas City on Sep. 21 when they open up Western Athletic Conference play against Grand Canyon at 7 p.m. CT in the Swinney Recreation Center.
