Ladutska, Fries, Ball Pick-up Wins on Day One of ITA Regionals

LAWRENCE, Kan. – UMKC women’s tennis picked up three victories on the opening day of the ITA Regionals, led by Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) who notched both a singles and doubles victory for the Roos.

In singles play, Ladutska knocked off Tulsa’s Rouxanne Van Rensburg 6-1, 6-1, while in doubles play, she teamed with Grace Ball (Wichita, Kan.) to defeat Nebraska’s duo of Castillo and Reifeis, 8-6.

Katie Fries notched the Roos second singles win with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Minnesota’s Karyna Bihel, while Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) lost 6-0, 6-1 to Tulsa’s Martina Okalova and Melinda Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) went down to North Dakota’s Isa Sullivan 6-4, 7-6.

In the Roos other doubles match, Grechkina and Johnson lost to Missouri’s Middlebrooks and Wright, 8-5.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow for second round action.
