Shameika McField was named the head coach for the UMKC track and field/cross country programs on March 4, 2008. Before her appointment, McField served as the interim head coach for the Kangaroos from January to March 2008. McField joined the athletics department in September 2007 as an academic advisor.

McField coached 11 all-Summit League selections during the 2010 indoor season, with Anthony Boyer claiming the gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles. Boyer was also recognized as The Summit League Championship Track MVP, the February Athlete of the Month and the Co-Track Athlete of the Year. McField had five athletes earn medals at the League Indoor Championships and coached the men to a fourth place finish. She had 10 athletes record first place finishes during the indoor season and watched Larry Hill break UMKC school records in the 600-yard run and 800-meter run, and Cosmas Ayabei break the 3,000-meter run. McField had 22 student-athletes land on the UMKC top-five performance list.

Following the 2010 outdoor season, McField coached Boyer to a NCAA Preliminary Round appearance the 400-meter hurdles, while also qualifying for the 110-meter hurdles. Boyer was The Summit League Outdoor Champion in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles and was named the League Championship MVP. The Kangaroos finished with seven medals at the League Outdoor Championships and the men finished fifth, scoring 94 points. McField had six student-athletes receive all-league recognition and had four school records broken during the outdoor season. Boyer broke the 400-meter hurdle record, Max Carroll broke the record in the javelin, Aubrey Frederking posted a new record in the 1,500-meter run and Susan Brueggemann broke the UMKC school record in the shot put. The Kangaroos had nine first place finishes during the outdoor season and had 13 student-athletes land on the UMKC all-time top-five performance list.

In the 2009 cross country season, McField saw Cosmas Ayabei run his way to a third place finish at the Summit League Cross Country Championship. Ayabei earned first team all-league honors and was named the Newcomer of the Championship, a honor that has not been bestowed to a Kangaroo since the 1999 season. Since taking over the UMKC running program, McField has had four student-athletes land on the UMKC all-time top performance and top performer lists.

Mcfield coached three all-Summit League selections during the 2009 indoor season, with Marcus Lee claiming the gold medal in the long jump and triple jump and Alex Lopez taking silver in the 800 meters at The Summit League Indoor Championships. She had two UMKC school records broken under her watch and had five student-athletes land in the UMKC all-time top-five performance list. Lee set the new school record in the triple jump at the Mule Relays with a mark of 51-01.50 and Lopez ran 1:54.23 at the Iowa State Classic to break the 800 meters school record.

During the indoor season, she had one student-athlete post an NCAA provisional mark and saw 10 meet champions.

Following the 2009 Summit League Outdoor Championships, McField had four student-athletes and one relay team receive gold medals and all-league honors. Lee was again crowned the long and triple jump champion and the men’s 4x100-meter relay team ran their way to a first place finish. Kimoya Harriott earned a gold medal in the javelin and broke the Eccles Coliseum record at Southern Utah University. Keenan Simmons finished first in the men’s 200-meter run, where he became the first male student-athlete in UMKC school history to be crowned the league champion in the event. McField also coached Anthony Boyer to a silver medal in the men’s 110 meters at the League Championships. The five gold medals earned at The Summit League Outdoor Championships were the most for the program since the 2002 season.

McField also had student-athletes compete in four events at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, with Lee placing fourth in the triple jump and earning a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She had two outdoor records broken under her watch and had nine student-athletes land in the UMKC record books. The `Roos had nine meet champions and 46 top-five finishers at the conclusion of the outdoor season.

In the classroom, McField had 17 student-athletes named to The Summit League Winter/Spring Academic all-League team and 10 named to the Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence. Sara Hiller was recognized again as an ESPN The Magazine Third Team Academic all-American.

During the 2008 indoor season, McField coached a pair of student-athletes to all-league honors at The Summit League Indoor Championships. Anthony Boyer claimed the league title in the men’s 60-meter hurdles, while Courtney Huber earned an all-league accolade after finishing third in the women’s high jump. At The Summit League Outdoor Championships, McField also had two of her student-athletes receive second and third team all-league honors. Charlie Larson recorded a second place finish in the triple jump, while Boyer placed third in the men’s 200-meter dash.

McField’s previous role as the academic advisor paid off for the Kangaroos in the 2008 season, as both the men’s and women’s teams were recognized by the USTFCCCA as all-Academic teams. UMKC’s Sara Hiller was also recognized as an ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic all-American. McField also had 18 student-athletes land on The Summit League’s Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence and a 27 student-athletes earn Winter/Spring Academic all-League honors.

Before moving to Kansas City, McField served as an assistant coach at Kansas under head coach Stanley Redwine. She coached three all-Americans, four NCAA qualifiers and one national champion during her time with the Jayhawks.

In 2005-06, McField served as an assistant coach at the University of Tulsa, where she coached six student-athletes to personal bests during the indoor season, as the Golden Hurricanes finished fourth in the first year competing in Conference USA.

Once the action turned to the outdoor season, McField coached three all-conference selections, which included leading Rickey Wilson Jr. to a gold medal performances in both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles. She also coached four competitors to NCAA Regional qualifying marks, and three TU school records were broken under her watch. As a team, Tulsa finished tied for fifth on the women’s side and sixth in the men’s competition at the C-USA Outdoor Championships.

During her time as a student-athlete, McField was a member of the Kansas track and field program from 1998-03. In 2003, she was a member of the 4x400-meter relay that qualified for the NCAA Championships. Academically, she was a Second Team Academic all-Big 12 selection in 2002 and 2003.

Additionally, McField was twice a Jayhawk Scholar-Athlete, and she was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She also was a member of the Student Relays Committee and the Kansas Black Student Union.

McField, who is a Level I Certified coach, earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and human development and family life from the University of Kansas in May 2003. McField is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
