UMKC Finishes Perfect WAC Season, Wins Conference Outright with Win over Vaqueros

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s tennis team (10-9, 5-0) clinched the outright WAC Regular Season Championship and completed a perfect conference season with a 7-0 win over UT Rio Grande Valley (10-10, 1-2) on Saturday afternoon at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Ill.

In doubles play, the WAC Champs' No. 72 ranked doubles team of Airam Castellano and Alex Pozo knocked-off Dennis Boisseau and Mateo Schmit, 6-3, and Tom Kruse and Diego Giraldo gave UMKC the point with a 6-2 win over UTRGV.

The Roos took care of business in singles play as all six Roos claimed a point.

Castellano beat Boisseau, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, and Pozo took down Kaufman, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2.

At No. 3, Kruse beat Johnstone, 7-5, 6-2, and Giraldo beat Sarradin, 6-1, 6-2, while the last two points came down to Clark beating Zane Kohrs, 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 and Anil Patel beating Schmit, 6-1, 7-6 (6).

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Apr. 20 when they close out the regular season in St. Louis, Mo., against Saint Louis at 12:15 p.m. CT.
