KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- UMKC Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Curt Jacey as the Deputy Athletics Director of External Relations. Jacey will lead the athletic department’s external unit, as developed by new Director of Athletics Dr. Brandon Martin. Jacey’s first day on campus is Jan. 2.
This is a new position within the Athletics Department, and created within the 100-day vision of Dr. Martin. The external unit will include staff dedicated to corporate strategic partnerships, alumni and community development, marketing, fan engagement and athletic communications.
Jacey brings more than 20 years of strategic growth and development from a professional and collegiate sports perspective. He will focus his attention on garnering and securing corporate partnerships, annual fund development and fund-raising for Roo athletics. Jacey will also lead the evolution of other key functions of the external unit including brand activation, alumni engagement and ticket sales.
Prior to his arrival at UMKC, Jacey was the General Manager for Partnership Sales at Learfield and worked with Learfield’s Campus+ division focusing on Healthcare specific partnerships since July 2016. Jacey and Dr. Martin created a healthcare partnership across seven different units for a campus-wide multi-media strategic partnership at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Dr. Martin was the Athletics Director at CSUN for the past three years prior to UMKC.
“I am excited to welcome Curt as the newest member of the Roo family,” said Dr. Martin. “His breadth of experience, and energy will bring immediate forward movement to our external unit. It has been my central focus to develop our external unit to enhance the experience of Roo Athletics for our student-athletes, donors, fans, campus and Kansas City community. Jacey’s leadership will pave the way for a new era in UMKC Athletics and help move us towards our goal of being a top 100 Division I program.”
Jacey is a proven fund-raiser as he was responsible for generating, at Learfield, over $3.2 million as part of two five-year campus-wide partnerships at two different Universities. In addition, he increased revenue in excess of 500% in that position during a three-year span.
Jacey has spent time in leadership positions at companies such as the International Speedway Corporate / NASCAR; Vice President of Diamond Sports and Entertainment, Inc. a privately held minor league baseball conglomerate; Chief Operating Officer of Old Time Sports, LLC; and oversaw the design and construction of the $3.3 million John Winkin Stadium in Bangor, Maine.
“I am extremely excited to join the Roo family and help build on the great existing traditions they have in place,” said Jacey. “We will have lofty goals for the department in our first 100 days and I am excited to assist in achieving Dr. Martin’s vision for the department.”
Jacey earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing from the University of Hartford.
