KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women's soccer incoming freshman Shelby Christopherson (Overland Park, Kan.) has been selected a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) High School All-American, as announced by the organization on Thursday. This is the first recognition of its kind for an incoming women's soccer student-athlete at UMKC.
"We are extremely proud of Shelby and everything that she has accomplished on and off the field at Blue Valley West High School and with her Sporting Blue Valley ECNL club team,” commented head coach Chris Cissell. “What an amazing and prestigious honor to earn NSCAA High School All-American.
“Shelby embodies everything that we are looking for in a member of the UMKC women's soccer family on and off the field. She is a phenomenal student-athlete with tremendous character and integrity. Shelby has a real love and passion for the game of soccer and we could not be more proud of her. We are excited to welcome her here on campus in August.”
Christopherson was one of 32 female high school student-athletes across the country to earn the distinction from the NSCAA. A four-year starter for Alex Aiman at Blue Valley West, Christopherson earned first-team all-state and all-conference laurels all four years. She was also named Eastern Kansas League Midfielder of the Year in her final two seasons. In her final season as a Jaguar, Christopherson helped her team win the Kansas 6A State Championships after finishing as the runner-up in 2016. In the classroom, Christopherson bolstered a 4.37 cumulative grade point average and was named Blue Valley West Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The 2016-17 NSCAA High School All-Americans will be formally recognized during the NSCAA All-American Luncheon in conjunction with the 2018 NSCAA Convention from Jan. 17-21, 2018 in Philadelphia. Luncheon registration details will be released in the fall.
