OREM, Utah – The UMKC men’s soccer team (4-5-3, 2-2 WAC) battled through its coldest conditions of the season on Thursday evening, dropping its second-straight Western Athletic Conference match, 2-1, at Utah Valley.
Utah Valley jumped on the board early, taking the 1-0 advantage in the seventh minute of play. A ball shot off the post bounced back into the feet of a Wolverine, who buried UVU’s first goal of the game.
It wasn’t until the 31st minute that Pandelis Popgeorgiev (Budapest, Hungary) registered UMKC’s first shot of the night. Over the next eight minutes, the Roos tallied three more shots, with the final of the half coming from sophomore Antoine Precheur (Paris, France). Teammate Christian Anderaos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) found Precheur running in front of the net, who knocked in his third goal of the season. Anderaos’ helper is the fourth of the season for the junior – the most of any Roo.
Four shots by UMKC in the second half – a pair by Anderaos, a header by Diego Serfaty (Sunrise, Fla.) and an attempt from Lorant Lettner (Budapest, Hungary) – would not be enough, as the Wolverines netted their second goal of the game in the 86th minute to take the lead and the game over the Roos.
UMKC will close its longest road stretch of the season at conference powerhouse Seattle U on Saturday night. Kickoff between the Roos and the Redhawks is slated for 9 p.m. CT.
