KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- UMKC Athletics has announced the resignation of Shameika McField, head coach of the cross country and track and field programs. She is resigning due to personal reasons. In her 11-year tenure, McField led her programs to five overall Western Athletic Conference (WAC) team championships (2 men’s cross country; 1 men’s outdoor track and field; 2 women’s outdoor track and field).

“For the past 11 years, coach McField has dedicated herself to the betterment of the UMKC track and field and cross country programs. She has focused on the development of successful student-athletes that have evolved into the next generation of leaders in our society. Thanks to McField’s efforts and leadership, the Roo running community is in an excellent position to take home additional conference and NCAA championships. She will always be a part of #TeamKC and the Roo family and we wish her nothing but success in her future.”
Dr. Martin has announced that UMKC Associate Head Coach Benaud Shirley will serve as the interim head coach for the track and field and cross country programs. His duties begin immediately. The indoor track and field programs will compete at their third event of the indoor season as the teams travel to the Wildcat Invitational in Manhattan, Kan., on Jan. 12.
