KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Lachlan Moore, junior on the Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field teams, is an active student in the UMKC Honors College and recently received the Honors College Talbott Scholarship. The Linda H. and Thomas H. Talbott Scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding UMKC Honors College students of all majors.  Moore is earning his degree in Health Sciences with the goal of attending medical school after graduation.

In addition to being a Talbott Scholarship recipient, Moore is an Honors College Ambassador, helping new Honors College students navigate college and address their concerns both academically and socially. This past summer, Moore participated in the Honors College Scotland Study Abroad Program.  During the month of July, he took 6 credit hours in classes focused on Scottish literature and social issues at the University of Edinburgh.  Moore said, “The classes and assignments were especially interesting amidst the debate on issues such as Brexit and the Trump administration. As a student-athlete, I did not think I would be able to go on a study abroad trip, but the Honors College gave me that opportunity.”

Being an active and involved student in the Honors College has given Moore the tools to be proactive in his education. "I have been able to foster professional relationships with some of UMKC's best faculty and professors and obtain leadership experience, such as my position as an Honors Ambassador," commented Moore. "The resources provided by the Honors College have enriched my college experience and pushed me to perform at the peak of my academic abilities.”

Beyond his work in the Honors College, Moore is an officer for the Bachelor of Health Sciences Society. For more information about the UMKC Honors College and the experience it provides its students, go here.
