KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to Rim Rock Farm this Saturday to compete in the Rim Rock Classic. In 2017, the Roos won the race with both squads.
Assistant coach Brett Guemmer gave some input on the Roos trip back to Lawrence this weekend.
“The ladies have been putting in some good mileage and workouts for the last month”, Guemmer stated. “We are excited to see how it pays off.”
Guemmer also was looking forward to the men’s race, where he expects a strong showing from his returners this time around.
“This will be a fun race for our guys”, Guemmer stated. “Because both Kansas and Kansas State have good teams, it will be interesting to see where we stack up with this younger team. Having our older guys in the race will help the younger runners moving forward.”
In regards to the starting pack, the women’s team will rely on senior Mia Jerman (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.), who won the race in 2017, as well as freshman Sommer Herner. Herner will be making her debut this weekend for the Roos.
Looking at the men’s squad, UMKC will counting on Marcus Johnson (Nixa, Mo.) and Daylan Quinn (Mountain View, Mo.) to guide this team to the top spot at Rim Rock.
The meet is free to spectators and fans this weekend in Lawrence.
Each team will be starting an hour a part from each other, with the women’s team starting at 9 a.m. C.T. and the men’s team going at 10 a.m. C.T.
