LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior standout Bryce Miller (Ashland, Wis.) concluded his extremely successful UMKC cross country career at the NCAA Division I Championship on Saturday morning.

“It might not have been a good race, but it was a great representation by Bryce,” head coach Shameika McField shared. “He did a great job and we are proud of how successful his season has been. He works tremendously hard and is always humble. He took this as an opportunity to gain experience as he continues to grow in the sport. Bryce is a young man that when he has a tough race, his comeback is always stronger and better. This has been a fantastic cross country season for the entire team, a sweet last season for Bryce, and collectively, we will follow it up with an indoor and outdoor track season that will be memorable for him and his teammates.”

Over the final 2-kilometers, Miller moved up five spots to finish 215th overall in a competitive field of student-athletes with a time of 31:52.83. Miller became just the third Roo in UMKC program history to make it to the national meet after finishing fifth overall at the Midwest regional meet last weekend. He was also one of two student-athletes representing the Western Athletic Conference.

“I know today didn’t exactly go the way Bryce wanted it to, but we as a coaching staff are extremely proud of what he has done here at UMKC,” assistant coach Brett Guemmer said. “He continually puts himself in spots to be successful. He did that today and it just wasn’t his day. Unfortunately, when you get on a stage like the NCAA Division I Championships, your bad days are magnified. I know he is an athlete that will continue to work hard and we are excited to see what the future looks like for the indoor and outdoor track seasons.”
