KANSAS CITY, Mo.Shameika McField, head coach of UMKC’s track and field and cross country programs, announced on Thursday that the 2017 cross country slate has been finalized.

“I am looking forward to the upcoming season,” McField shared. “We return everyone from last year and added quality and depth, so the expectations are high. The men are especially excited, given we won by one point last year. We understand what it will take to repeat our success. The women, who are coming off a rough 2016 cross country season, have changed their mindset and are up for the new challenge. It will be a great year and we are excited to continue to get better.”

The Roos will begin the season at the Bob Timmons Dual Classic on Sept. 2. The men’s 6-kilometer race will begin at 9 a.m. CT, while the women’s 5K will start at approximately 10 a.m. CT.

UMKC will return to Rim Rock Farm on Sept. 30 for the Rim Rock Classic, where the women and men will compete in a 6K and 8K race, respectively.

Both teams will get an opportunity to battle on the same course that will be used for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 18 when they travel to the NCAA Division I Cross Country Pre-National meet in Louisville, Ky., at the E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park on Oct. 14.

On Oct. 28, the Roos will trek to Las Cruses, N.M., for the 2017 WAC Championships, hosted by New Mexico State, before gearing up for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet in Ames, Iowa, on Nov. 10.
