KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC basketball rounded out their staff for the 2018 season with the hiring of Liza Fruendt, head coach Jacie Hoyt announced earlier this week.

“I would like to thank Coach Hoyt for giving me this opportunity, and I am excited to join the UMKC Women’s Basketball program.” said Fruendt. “Jacie and her staff are working hard to build a winning culture on and off the court and I can’t wait to contribute to that in any way that I can.”

Fruendt comes to UMKC after wrapping up a stellar career at Missouri State where she excelled both on and off the court. As a Lady Bear, Fruendt was named MVC All-Freshman Team (2015), First Team All-MVC (2017, 2018) and MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team (2017, 2018). Fruendt scored 1,656 career points, good for seventh on MSU’s all-time list. The Batavia, Illinois native also ranks in the top 10 all-time in field goals and three-pointers. She is one of five players to score 1,500 points and record 400 rebounds and 200 three-pointers.

During her junior year Fruendt scored 46 points on March 2, 2017 at No 22 Drake, the fifth-best total in school history behind only Jackie Stiles, and fourth-highest total in NCAA Division I in 2016-17. She became the ninth player in MSU history to average double figures as a freshman and sophomore. As a freshman, she opened her career with three consecutive double-figure scoring games, the first MSU freshman to achieve that feat since Jackie stiles in 1997.

Fruendt will be primarily responsible for film exchange, while assisting with numerous other day-to-day duties with the program.

“Words can’t express how excited I am to add Liza to our coaching staff.” commented Hoyt. “In building my staff I take great pride in providing our players with positive role models and knowledgeable mentors. Liza is the ideal role model and perfect fit for the culture we are building within our program. Her experience as a high-level player is something that will directly impact our players as she can help them navigate through the ins and outs of what it takes to be successful on and off the court.”

The Roos open up the 2018 campaign at Kansas on Nov. 7. Season tickets for the 2018 season are now on sale and can be purchased online through the team’s website or by calling 844-UMKC-FAN.
