#TeamKC Notes

UMKC enters the weekend coming off a 2-3 showing in the opening tournament of 2018, including a pair of wins over Drake and Northern Iowa last Sunday. The victories included notable pitching performances from Lynsey Conner (Peggs, Okla.) and Olivia Fluehr (Loves Park, Ill.), who combined to throw 10.2 innings and allowing just one run on four hits. The duo will look to stay sharp in the circle in the weekend ahead.

Conner’s dominant complete game outing, allowing one run on four hits, hoisted her to sixth place in the WAC with a 3.50 era. Limiting opponents to a miniscule .222 batting average thus far is good for third-best in the conference.

Oklahoma natives Maegan Rollow (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Kelsey Goodwin (Broken Arrow, Okla.) each had impressive weekends offensively. Rollow enters the weekend leading the Roos with a .417 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage, which ranks fifth in the WAC. Goodwin strung together four hits in the UNI-Dome Classic and leads the team with five RBI’s in the early going, tied for fifth-best in the conference.

Sophomore outfielder Sydney Garcia (Kansas City, Mo.) is in the midst of a terrific early showing hitting in the leadoff spot, boasting a .389 batting average to pair with a home run and two RBI’s through five contests. Junior infielder Morgan Byrn (Lawrence, Kan.) joins Garcia as the only Roos with home runs in 2018.

As a team, UMKC sits among the top-half of the conference in batting average (.288), on-base percentage (.364), home runs (2) and fielding percentage (949) through one week of play. The pitching staff, beyond Conner and Fluehr, will look to tighten up after posting a 4.98 team era and .304 batting average against.
