KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women’s basketball team (0-1) is set to hit the road to face Nebraska (1-0) on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. CT. The game is the second of a six-game road stretch in the month of November.
The Roos were most recently in action last Friday in a road game at Western Illinois for the 2017-18 season opener. UMKC battled admirably for three quarters before the Leathernecks connected on a several three-pointers to put the game away in the final period. The Roos have shot 42.2% (27-64) from the field and 33.3% (8-24) from beyond the arc in the early going.
Offensively, the team looked sharp in all aspects and had five players – Samantha Waldron (Omaha, Neb.), Kristen Moore (Chicago, Ill.), Kiana Law (Pittsburgh Pa.), Aries Washington (Kansas City, Mo.) and India Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) – score in double figures. The Roos will look to continue to spread the ball around using a well-balanced offensive attack. Defense will need to improve for UMKC, however, as the team allowed 90 points in the season opener.
Nebraska returns three starters and eight letter-winners from a team that went 7-22 overall and 3-13 in conference to tie for 11th in the Big Ten last season. Sophomore guard Hannah Whitish is team’s top returning scorer, accounting for 9.0 points per game in 2016-17, while senior Jasmine Cincore and sophomore Nicea Eliely form an experienced backcourt after starting all 29 games for the Huskers a year ago.
