KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women’s basketball head coach Jacie Hoyt announced on Tuesday that the 2017-18 schedule has been completed and includes 29 regular season games, including two nonconference tournaments. The Roos will play 14 home games at Swinney Recreation Center.
“Our nonconference schedule is one that will test us in every way, shape and form right from the start of our season”, commented Hoyt. “We open up on the road against a very good Western Illinois team and it doesn’t get any easier from there, as we will face high level teams from the Big 12, Big Ten, and American Athletic Conference on their home courts.”
The Roos will open the 2017-18 season with a home exhibition game against William Jewell on Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. CT. This will be the only home game for the team in November.
A six-game road gauntlet spanning the entire month of November awaits UMKC to open the regular season. The Roos will be challenged at Western Illinois (Nov. 10), Nebraska (Nov. 14), Tulsa (Nov. 18), Iowa State (Nov. 20), Illinois State (Nov. 26) and Kansas (Nov. 29).
UMKC returns home as December rolls in with a pair of contests against Lincoln (Dec. 2) and Harris-Stowe State (Dec. 11) before hosting the Roo Holiday Classic. The Roos are slated to play Northern Colorado (Dec. 19) and Denver (Dec. 20) in their home tournament.
“We are very excited to host our own tournament as it is a great opportunity to play in front of our fans”, noted Hoyt. “We are confident our nonconference games will prepare us for a very competitive WAC schedule.”
The team will compete in another nonconference tournament immediately following the Roo Holiday Classic. Games against Stetson (Dec. 29) and either Florida Atlantic or Delaware State (Dec. 30) are scheduled in the Florida Atlantic Holiday Tournament. UMKC wraps up its nonconference schedule with a home matchup against Central Christian (Jan. 2).
A trip to UT Rio Grande Valley (Jan. 6) marks the opening of Western Athletic Conference play for UMKC. The Roos will then head home to compete in their first conference games at Swinney Recreation Center hosting Utah Valley (Jan. 11) and Seattle U (Jan. 13).
From there, the Roos embark on their longest road stretch in conference play with games at CSU Bakersfield (Jan. 18), Grand Canyon (Jan. 20) and New Mexico State (Jan. 27). UMKC will play their second contests against Grand Canyon (Feb. 1) and CSU Bakersfield (Feb. 3) the following week at Swinney Recreation Center.
Another trip west for the Roos has the team set to face Seattle U (Feb. 8) and Utah Valley (Feb. 10) in the heart of their conference schedule.
A three-game home set will send the Roos down the final stretch of the regular season with matchups against Chicago State (Feb. 17), UT Rio Grande Valley (Feb. 22) and New Mexico State (Feb. 24). UMKC will recognize its seven seniors when the Roos host New Mexico State for its final home game of the season.
The Roos will close the 2017-18 regular season with a road battle at Chicago State (Mar.3) before preparing for the WAC Tournament. The tournament will return to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., for the eighth year in a row.
