KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Josiah Allick and Maks Klanjscek are the newest additions to the UMKC men’s basketball program as both signed National Letters of Intent (NLI), announced head coach Billy Donlon on Friday. The pair will join the team with freshmen eligibility status. Allick is a Lincoln, Neb., native and played his high school ball at Lincoln North Star High School. Klanjscek grew up in Ljubljana, Slovenia and graduated from the Hoosac prep school in May.

With the addition of Allick and Klanjscek, the UMKC 2019-20 signing class now stands at six.

“Josiah and Maks will bring skill, athleticism and most importantly passion for the game as they join our program,” said Donlon. “Both are excellent students and will thrive in the classroom at UMKC.”

Allick nearly averaged a double-double as a senior at Lincoln North Star – going for 15.3 points and 9.8 boards all while shooting 65 percent from the field. He was named to the All-Lincoln First Team and All-Conference Second Team last season. He set the school record for rebounds in a season (255) and game (18). He helped the Navigators reach the state tournament semifinals. He was a three-time Honor Roll student and also participated in football and track and field.

Allick was born into an athletic family. His mother, Colleen, played basketball at Northwest Missouri State. His father, Melvin, was a swimmer at UNLV. His younger sister, Bekka, committed to the University of Nebraska to play volleyball. He plans to major in computer science at UMKC.

“Josiah is an example of where the game is going. He has the size of a post player but his skill level, which he has worked hard on over the past two years, is that of a perimeter player. He will have an ability to make a great impact and have a special career if he attacks the weight room and continues to evolve his game.”

Klanjscek comes to the Roos with FIBA playing experience. He participated in the 2017 FIBA U18 European Championship. He attended the Hoosac School last year, which is a prep boarding school located in Hoosick, N.Y. He helped his team play in the NEPSAC AAA playoffs.

“Maks has earned his reputation as a shot maker. His ability to make shots against some of the best prep school programs in the northeast (United States) will translate. He has size to shoot over people and the other areas of his game will continue to improve. Maks plays with a swagger that our program needs.”
