KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC men’s basketball junior guard Xavier Bishop was named to the Preseason All-WAC Second Team by both the conference’s head coaches and the media, the league announced today.

“We are expecting a lot from X,” Head Coach Kareem Richardson said.  “He’s one of our veterans, as a junior, this will be his third year for us.  In practice, he knows what buttons to push to make things go, the expectations of the team and how things should be run.  We are counting on him for a leadership role and he has been taking that on.”

Last season, Bishop started 28 games for the Roos, leading the team at 11.6 points and 3.3 assists, while adding 2.9 rebounds and nearly a steal a game.  Three times he topped the 20-point mark, including a career-high 25 points at Incarnate Word on Dec. 16.

As a team, the Roos were picked to finish seventh in the conference in both polls.

“Luckily, these are just preseason predictions,” Richardson added.  “We’ve been picked around this spot about every year and usually we’ve been able to exceed those preseason expectations.  Hopefully, this year will be like the past and we will be right there in the mix, competing for a championship.”
