KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC men’s basketball head coach Kareem Richardson announced Saturday the addition of Will Mangum (Memphis, Tenn.) through the signing of a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period.
“We are very excited to welcome Will and his family to the UMKC men’s basketball family,” Richardson shared. “Will is a tremendous young man that brings athleticism, toughness and versatility to our program. He has been in a basketball program at Tennessee Prep that strives in developing young men and preparing them for their college careers. He has the ability to play several positions in our system and he will definitely be an asset to our program and to the UMKC community.”
Mangum is a 6-7 forward from Tennessee Prep Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. The two-time team captain helped the Diplomat Lions to a 31-13 record in his final two seasons with the varsity team. He know is a member of the school’s boys post-graduate basketball program.
In 2016, he secured the Lighthouse Classic rebound record after grabbing 18 in his team’s contest against Tech Academy Canada. Mangum becomes the second student-athlete to sign at UMKC from Tennessee Prep during the Richardson era, joining Jordan Giles (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) on the Roos squad.
Mangum will join junior college transfer Jamel Allen (Brentwood, N.Y.) for the 2018-19 season.
