KANSAS CITY, Mo.Kyle Steward, who finished a successful two-year playing career at UMKC this past spring, has inked a professional contract to play basketball with Iraqi Airways, an Iraq Superleague team. Steward’s contract will begin immediately and run through the end of April 2018 with an opportunity to renew.

“I am really excited about this opportunity,” Steward shared. “Playing at UMKC allowed me to put myself in a position to be able to chase my dream of being a professional basketball player. It allowed me to play basketball at a high level to be seen and appreciated by professional teams to earn myself a contract for my rookie year. I want to thank everyone at UMKC who played a role in helping me throughout my time there.”

“We are excited to know Kyle will have an opportunity to play professionally,” head coach Kareem Richardson said. “Kyle has worked extremely hard to put himself in a position to live out a childhood dream.”

Kyle played in 66 games over his two-year career at UMKC after transferring from Butler Community College. During the 2016-17 season, he averaged 13.5 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per game during Western Athletic Conference play. He finished his career with the Roos with the eighth-best 3-point field goal percentage (39.8%, 80-for-201) in program history. Steward scored in double figures 20 times during his senior season, including 13 of the last 14 games.
