KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC men’s basketball forward Jordan Giles (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) has been invited to play a set of goodwill basketball games in Spain from August 11-17.
“I think that the trip to Spain will not only help me athletically, but also mentally,” shared Giles. “I feel that the game of basketball has brought me to places that I never thought I would go, even though this is only the beginning for me. I hope to use this trip to gain and maintain confidence as a person and a player, as well as to showcase my God-given talents on the basketball court.”
The trip – which is sponsored by Global Sports Academy – will also feature a community service project that will be done in Barcelona before the team hits the road for Madrid and Valencia.
Giles will be joined by student-athletes representing conferences such as the Big 12 and ACC, as the team will compete against some of the top club programs in Spain.
“We are expecting Jordan’s role to increase significantly this year,” commented head coach Kareem Richardson. “There’s no question that this experience will help propel Jordan’s confidence as a player.”
In his first year with the Roos, Giles made an appearance in 27 games, shooting 43 percent (15-for-35) from the field, 30 percent (3-for-10) from 3-point range and 92 percent (11-for-12) at the foul line. He scored a career-high 12 points while shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor in UMKC’s 93-71 victory over William Jewell. Giles logged a career-best 17 minutes against William Jewell and Ottawa when he also set career-highs with seven rebounds and three assists.
