KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC men’s basketball and Head Coach Kareem Richardson announced the signing of Robert Whitfield to a National Letter of Intent to continue his education and playing career at UMKC.

“We are thrilled to have Rob join our Roos basketball family,” Richardson said. “Rob will bring us experience and the ability for our team to have another playmaker on the floor.”

The Raleigh, N.C., native comes to Kansas City after spending the 2016-17 season at Queens University of Charlotte and the 2017-18 season at Hutchinson Community College.  During his season with the Royals, the 6-4 guard appeared in 22 games before heading to Kansas.  With the Blue Dragons, Whitfield posted 8.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 38.5 percent from beyond the arc and 80.5 percent from the free throw line.  As a prep at Wake Christian Academy he was named the squad’s most outstanding player from 2013-16.

Whitfield joins Kenny Strawbridge in this season’s recruiting class.
