    LAST TIME OUT
The ‘Roos opened the regular season with a 80-33 rout of Truman State in the regular season opener on Nov. 14.  UMKC had three players finish in double figures and all 10 players that saw action scored.  Defensively, the squad forced 25 Bulldog turnovers and limited TSU to just two points over the final 12 minutes of action.

    THE COACHES
Head Coach Matt Brown is in his third season with the UMKC men’s basketball program, where he has compiled an 19-45 overall record and has coached three players to all-Summit League recognition.  Former forward Dane Brumagin was a second team all-league honoree and Reggie Hamilton was an all-newcomer team selection in 2007-08, while Brumagin earned an honorable mention all-league nod in 2008-09.  Last season, Brown guided the ‘Roos to a pair of wins over Missouri Valley Conference foes Wichita State and Bradley.  It was just the third time in school history for the team to beat two MVC teams in the same season.
John Redmond is in his first season as the head coach at Lincoln University.  Redmond was elevated to the head coaching position after spending the last two years as an assistant coach for the Blue Tigers.

    SCOUTING LINCOLN U.
The Blue Tigers posted a 1-1 record during its exhibition season, falling 91-64 to Louisiana Tech on Nov. 7 before topping Langston University, 74-72, on Nov. 14.
A pair of Lincoln players averaged in double digits during its exhibition slate in Darrius Gaters (13.0 ppg.) and Ryan Spearman (12.0 ppg.).  Eric Jones, meanwhile, averaged a team-high 7.5 boards per game to help the team to a +2.0 advantage in rebounding margin.

    LINCOLN GAME NOTES
    • Tuesday’s game is Lincoln’s regular season opener.
    • The Blue Tigers return zero starters and a total of six letterwinners from a squad that finished 5-22 during the 2008-09 season.
    • Lincoln University is located in Jefferson City, Mo., and is a NCAA Division II institution.  Athletically, the squad competes in the Heartland Conference.
    • The Blue Tigers were picked to finish ninth in the Heartland Conference in 2009-10.  Dallas Baptist was chosen as the preseason favorite in the league.

    THE SERIES
Tuesday’s meeting between UMKC and Lincoln University will be the first in the all-time series between the two schools.

    QUICK HITTERS
    • UMKC won its regular season opener for the first time since the 2006-07 season and for the first time during the Matt Brown era on Nov. 14 in the 80-33 win over Truman State.  The program is now 7-16 overall in openers and an even 6-6 in openers in Kansas City.
    • All 10 players that saw action scored in the regular season opening win over Truman State.
    • Sophomore Trey McKinney-Jones finished with career-highs in steals (4) and assists (5) against Truman State.
    • UMKC returns 53 percent of its scoring (1067 of 2008), 69 percent (690 of 1007) of its rebounds,  49 percent (168-340) of its assists, 52 percent of its steals (109-208) and 55 percent of its blocks (30-55) from last season.
    • The team’s returnees finished with a .407 (388-954) field goal percentage and a .283 (75-265) three-point field goal percentage in 2008-09.

    SHARING THE ROCK
The ‘Roos finished with 20 assists on 29 field goals in the season-opening win over Truman State.  The total matches a high for the program during the Matt Brown era, as the squad also accomplished the feat in Brown’s first head coaching victory over Washburn on Nov. 13, 2007.  Last season, UMKC’s single game high was 17, which happened on two occasions.

    DEFENSIVE INTENSITY
UMKC stepped up its defensive intensity in the win over Truman State.  Using an aggressive man-to-man defense, the ‘Roos limited the Bulldogs to 33 points in the game, which is the second fewest points allowed in a single game in school history to William Jewell’s 29 points on Nov. 21, 1999.
In the second half alone, UMKC limited TSU to just 12 points, which included an eight minute scoreless stretch.  Over the final 12 minutes, the squad held the Bulldogs to just two points, both of which came on free throws.
For the game, UMKC forced Truman State into 25 turnovers and held the squad to a .275 field goal percentage and a .154 three-point field goal percentage.

    A ROUT
UMKC’s 47-point win over Truman State is the fifth largest margin of victory in school history and the biggest win for a Matt Brown coached team.

    COUISNARD NETS CAREER-HIGH
Junior Jay Couisnard made the most of his UMKC debut, as the forward scored a career-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the win over Truman State.  The forward’s previous career-high of 12 points came in a game at Southeast Missouri State during the 2007 season when he was a member of the Evansville basketball team.

    A KORVER DEBUT
Freshman Kirk Korver opened his UMKC career in grand fashion by finishing with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the win over Truman State.  In the first half alone, the center was a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor en route to 10 points in his first 20 minutes of collegiate basketball.
Kirk’s performance is the top single game output among the Korver brothers in their collegiate debuts.  Kyle and Kaleb, both of whom played at Creighton, scored two points apiece in wins over Mississippi Valley State and DePaul, respectively, while Klayton (Drake) netted three points in a victory over Simpson in 2003.

    STAT STUFFER
Sophomore LaTreze Mushatt had an all-around good game for UMKC in the regular season opener.  The forward made 5-of-7 shot attempts to net 12 points.  Additionally, the forward grabbed five rebounds to go along with three assists, three steals and two blocks.  The two blocks tied a career-high.
