KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- UMKC (8-14, 3-4 WAC) is attempting to stay in the top half of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) standings on Saturday with a visit to UT Rio Grande Valley (11-12, 3-4 WAC) with the game at 7 p.m. CST from UTRGV Fieldhouse.

#TeamKC Notes

  • The game wraps up the first time through the league schedule, with each squad eventually pulling in eight games at the halfway point after Saturday.
Both clubs are tied for fifth in the WAC standings at 3-4, which is 1.5 games behind Utah Valley for fourth.
  • Saturday marks the 25th meeting between the teams with each squad winning 12 contests. UMKC has won five out of the last six games, including last year’s 83-59 rout in Edinburg. The Roos have won the last two contests at UTRGV, with the last loss coming Jan. 16, 2016 (71-66).
  • Overall, the Vaqueros are 7-3 in the series on their home court.
  • The Roos are just two wins shy of already reaching last year’s total win amount of 10. Also, two more conference wins would tie the amount of five established last year.
  • A win at UT Rio Grand Valley means... UMKC’s first road league win of the year... bring the Roos to within one victory of last year’s season total of 10... Extend a road winning streak in the UTRGV series to three-straight... Roos improve to 6-1 in their last seven games against the Vaqueros... UMKC grabs sole possession of fifth place in the league.
  • Last time out - The UMKC men’s basketball team dropped a 70-54 decision to New Mexico State (17-4, 6-1) on Thursday night at the Pan American Center.
