KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC Volleyball team will host its annual Roo Spring Invitational this weekend at the Swinney Center. The tournament will take place on Friday, Apr. 6th and will feature two power five conferences as Kansas State represents the Big 12 and Arkansas is a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
Other conferences joining in on the action will be the Big East (Creighton), the Missouri Valley (Bradley, Missouri State and Northern Iowa), the Summit League (South Dakota and Omaha) and the American Athletic Conference (Wichita State).
“It is always important to provide our Roo fan base and the wide array of volleyball fans here in Kansas City the chance to watch elite level competition throughout the year,” stated UMKC head coach Christi Posey. “True volleyball aficionados can get their fix now instead of waiting for the fall season. We schedule this event in conjunction with the USAV Show Me Qualifier Tournament at the Kansas City Convention Center, which brings over 78,000 volleyball players, coaches and family members to Kansas City. What a tremendous recruiting opportunity for our staff!”
This is the sixth year that UMKC has hosted the spring invitational at the Swinney Center with the goal of preparing the players for the upcoming 2019 fall season.
Admission is free to the invitational and competition starts at 9:30 a.m. CT. All four courts will be in use as 13 teams will be in action. Teams will play two sets only to maintain a one-hour time limit. A brief lunch period from 12:30-1:00 pm will be taken.
Come out and support the Roos who play against Kansas State at 10:30 a.m. CT before taking on Rockhurst and Omaha at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
