KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC volleyball team (7-15, 3-5) fell 3-0 on Thursday night at the Icardo Center to CSU Bakersfield (13-10, 6-2) in Western Athletic Conference action.
The Roos opened the match hanging close in the first set, but CSUB quickly pushed the lead to eight after the first 20 points. UMKC closed the lead down to five at 16-11 on a kill from Harrington and then trimmed the margin to four at 19-15 on a kill from Sadler. UMKC, however, could get no closer as Bakersfield came away with the 25-18 win.
In the second set, the Road Runners extended their lead to 2-0 heading into the intermission with a 25-9 victory.
The Roadrunners then closed the match out in the final set, jumping out to a 6-1 lead early before extending the edge to as many as eight. UMKC closed to within three at 20-17, but CSUB sealed the match with a 25-20 win.
For the Roos, Kynnedy Myers (Rose Hill, Kan.) had 14 assists and Alli Schomers (Omaha, Neb.) added 12, while Rhegan Spiegel (Savannah, Mo.) finished with a team-best 11 digs. Alex Ratzlaff (Hillsboro, Kan.), meanwhile, recorded four digs, three kills and three aces.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Saturday when they head to Phoenix, Ariz., for a 2 p.m. CT match with Grand Canyon in WAC play.
