KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC volleyball team will open the 2017 WAC Volleyball Championship as the No. 6 seed where they will face No. 3 seed Utah Valley at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Nov. 16 in the UTRGV Fieldhouse. With a win, the Roos will advance to take on No. 2 seed UTRGV at 7 p.m. CT on Nov 17, while Saturday’s championship game will also feature a 7 p.m. CT first serve.

About the Roos UMKC enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed with a 9-18 mark on the season and a 5-9 record in conference action, picking up wins over Grand Canyon, Chicago State (twice), Seattle and UTRGV. Four Roos have topped the 100-kill mark on the season, including 284 from Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa), 211 from Mykal Sadler (Des Moines, Iowa), 191 from Alex Ratzlaff (Hillsboro, Kan.) and 148 from Brooke Jacobs (Peoria, Ill.). In the back row, Rhegan Spiegel (Savannah, Mo.) has a team-high 384 digs with Ratzlaff chipping in 265 and Harrington adding 258.
About the Wolverines
Utah Valley enters the match as the No. 3 seed with a 14-15 record overall and a 9-5 mark in WAC play. Lexi Thompson leads the Wolverine offense with 366 kills, while Madison Dennison has added 298 kills and Kristen Allred has chipped in 202. Two others, meanwhile, have topped 100 kills. Sierra Starley sets up the offense with 1,024 assists and in the back row, Seren Merrill leads the squad with 423 digs.
About the Vaqueros
UTRGV comes into the event as the No. 2 seed with a record of 16-11 overall and 10-4 mark in WAC play. Offensively, Ragni Steen Knudsen tops the squad with 377 kills, with Bojana Mitrovic adding 319, Barbara Silva adding 275, Alexandra Ecker adding 157 and Veronika Jandova adding 102. Dubravka Vukoja, meanwhile, leads the team with 853 assists, while Gysell Zayas has a team-best 447 digs.
