TEMPE, Ariz. – The UMKC men’s and women’s tennis teams were given All-Academic Team status on Tuesday from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) after posting a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better during the 2016-17 academic school year.
Additionally, four Roos from the women’s squad – Raquel Argenal (Tegucigalpa, Honduras), Katie Fries (Overland Park, Kan.), Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) and Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) – and four from the men’s side – Uldis Gaismins (Riga, Latvia), Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain), Mike Psarros (Athens, Greece) and Matheus Rohde (Porto Alegre, Brazil) – were named ITA Scholar Athletes for carrying a GPA of at least 3.50 through at least two semesters.
“I am very proud of both teams and individuals that continue to do amazing work both on and off the court,” commented head coach Kendell Hale. “This last year could not have been more successful in fulfilling our goals.”
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
