UMKC Drops Match At Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The UMKC women’s tennis team (5-7) fell 4-0 on Friday afternoon to Nebraska (10-2) at the Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.

In doubles play, Katie Fries and Grace Ball dropped their match with Katerina Matysova and Vasanti Shinde at No. 3, 6-1 and at No. 2, Thanushree Vale and Ioanna Lathouri lost 6-1 to Claire Reifeis and Hayley Haakenstad.  From the No. 1 spot, meanwhile, Melinda Johnson and Aliona Ladutska were trailing Del Cueto Castillo and Brianna Lashway 4-3 when the point was clinched.

In singles play, Nebraska built its lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win from the No. 5 position as Ball fell to Jeannie Lozowski and then the match went 3-0 when Vale went down to Matysova, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4.

The Cornhuskers then clinched the match when Johnson dropped her contest with Shinde, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3.

In the remaining matches, Ladutska was trailing Lashway, 6-,5 at No. 1, Fries was down to Reifeis 6-0, 4-4 at No. 2 and Lathouri was trailing M’Balia Bangoura 6-2, 4-2, at No. 6.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action tomorrow when they face Illinois State at 1:30 p.m. CT in Lincoln, Neb.
