Roos Head to Wichita for Matches with Mavericks, Shockers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC women’s tennis will look to add two more wins to its record this weekend when it heads south to Wichita, Kan.  The Roos open on Saturday with a 4 p.m. CT match against UT Arlington, before taking on Wichita State on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Blue & Gold will continue their 2018 campaign in Wichita, Kan., against UT Arlington and Wichita State on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4.

Last week, the Roos picked up a pair of wins against Arkansas State, 4-0 and Central Arkansas, 4-2 to improve to 3-1 on the season.  For their efforts, the Roos No. 1 doubles pairing of Melinda Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) and Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) was named the WAC Women’s Tennis Doubles Players of the Week.

 

For the opponents, UT Arlington opens up its championship season on Friday against UTRGV before taking on the Roos.  The Shockers, meanwhile, currently hold a 3-1 record on the season with wins over Stephen F. Austin, SMU and FIU and will face NC State and UT Arlington before their match with UMKC.
