UMKC Makes First Appearance in NCAA Regional Saturday

STILLWATER, Okla. – UMKC women's tennis (13-9) makes its first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament with a 12 p.m. CT match Saturday against No. 9 Oklahoma State (22-5) in the Stillwater Regional at the Greenwood Tennis Center at Greenwood Tennis Center.

UMKC won its first ever league title by winning the Western Athletic Conference championship over New Mexico State on April 30 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Roos have won eight of their last 10 matches.

In singles play, UMKC is led by Katie Fries (Overland Park, Kan.), who is 12-3 overall and 8-1 at the No. 5 position. Fries has won five consecutive matches. WAC Freshman of the Year Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) is 12-5, including a 3-0 mark on the No. 3 court and a 7-4 record at No. 4. Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) is 9-7 in No. 1 competition.

On the doubles court, Grechkina and Melinda Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) have gone 9-7 in No. 1 competition. Grechkina is 12-7 overall in doubles.
