Roos Look to Pull Upset of Cowgirls in NCAA First Round

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC women’s tennis (15-9) will look to avenge its 2017 NCAA first round loss when it heads to Stillwater, Okla., for the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to take on No. 8 Oklahoma State (19-4) at 4 p.m. CT at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

The Roos return to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year and the second time in school history when they head to Oklahoma to take on the Cowgirls.


Opponent: Oklahoma State enters the tournament as the No. 8 seed and has racked up five top-25 wins this season with victories over Florida, UCLA, Kansas, Baylor and Miami.  The Cowgirls have spent 74 consecutive weeks in the ITA top 25. The last time OSU was outside the top 25 was March 18, 2014.  They have won 20 or more matches in each of the last three seasons and since 2012, have made seven-straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Entering the match, OSU has won 47 of their last 49 matches at the Greenwood Tennis Center, dating back to March of 2015.

Last Time Out: The UMKC women’s tennis team (13-9) picked up a 6-1 win on Saturday afternoon over Saint Louis (7-12) at the St. Clair Tennis Club in O’Fallon, Ill.


Last Season: The Roos fell 4-0 to the Cowgirls last season in Stillwater with OSU taking the doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 2.  In singles play, OSU won at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3.
