Roos Beaten by Air Force in Colorado Finale

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UMKC women’s tennis (5-7) fell 4-0 at Air Force (9-6) on Sunday afternoon in the weekend finale at the Cadet Gymnasium indoor courts. The Falcons won three singles matches and notched the doubles point. The Roos finished the weekend 2-1.

Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) was beaten 2-6, 6-0, 1-3 as she was unable to finish the No. 1 match against Chloe Forlini. Melinda Johnson (Overland Park, Kan.) fell 6-0, 6-0 to TJ Fumagalli on the No. 2 court. Mariam Kurasbediani (Tbilsi, Georgia) dropped a 7-6, 6-2 match to Elizabeth Barnickel in No. 3 play. Marina Albert (Thebes, Egypt) was bested 6-2, 6-4 by Nadeen Lieberman in the No. 4 contest.

In doubles play, Fumagalli and Barnickel beat Yana Grechkina (Vladimir, Russia) and Johnson 6-0 on the No. 1 court. Forlini and Jocelle Rudico claimed a 6-1 victory in No. 2 play over Thanushree Vale (Chennai, India) and Kurasbediani.

UMKC returns to play on March 18 in the Western Athletic Conference opener at New Mexico State at 11 a.m. CT.
