DENVER, Colo. --- UMKC men's tennis players Ben Stride and Diego Giraldo were named Western Athletic Conference Men's Doubles Team of the Week for their performance last weekend in the conference pod in Seattle, Wash., on April 12-13th, the conference announced today.
This is the first award for both players in 2019 as the duo combined for a 2-0 doubles record in the pod against Seattle U and Chicago State. Stride and Giraldo posted set scores of 6-3 and 6-0 over the weekend to help the Roos sweep both matches, 7-0, to conclude the WAC regular season.
The pairing have combined for a 14-4 record in the No. 1 spot in 2019 and have produced a seven match winning streak that dates back to Mar. 20th at Northwest Missouri State. Both players will head into the conference tournament with a 5-0 record during WAC play.
Giraldo has improved his win total from 2018 by four matches as the Medellin, Colombia native recorded a 10-9 campaign primarily from the No. 2 spot.
Coming down to the end of the regular season, the Roos will host Saint Louis on Friday, Apr. 19th at 1 p.m. CT. Stride and two other Roos, Anil Patel and Hunter Clark, will be competing in their last home match as seniors.
