KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s tennis team finished up the 2019 season with 10 victories and a No. 3 seed in the WAC Tournament. The Roos lose three seniors with the conclusion of the 2019 season. Check out more information below for a recap of the 2019 campaign.


2019 Regular Season:

  • 10-12 Overall Record
  • 3-2 WAC Record
  • Clinched the No. 3 seed in the WAC Tournament
  • Ended the regular season on a three-match winning streak
  • 4-3 at home this year
  • 2-1 at neutral sites

Doubles Play:

  • Ben Stride and Diego Giraldo combined for 16 wins at the No. 1 spot
  • Both players notched a perfect record in WAC play during the season at the No. 1 spot (5-0)
  • As a team, the Roos produced 34 points in doubles play
  • Stride led all Roos players with 17 wins in doubles competition
  • Giraldo sits in second with 16 wins

Singles Play:

  • Ben Stride led all UMKC players with 16 wins on the year playing primarily in the No. 3 spot
  • Diego Giraldo produced a team-high four conference victories
  • Overall, four Roos had 10 wins in singles competition during the 2019 season (Stride, Giraldo, Tom Kruse and Hunter Clark)
  • As a team, the Roos recorded 69 points in singles play
  • Kruse competed against three nationally ranked opponents in the No. 1 spot throughout 2019 for singles competition

Diego Giraldo

  • 2019 Second Team All-WAC Singles selection
  • Currently holds the fourth highest winning percentage in team history for doubles play (.667)
    • Holds a career record of 26-13 as a Roo

2019 WAC Tournament:

  • No. 3 seed
  • Quarterfinals Round
    • Defeated No. 6 Seattle U, 4-0
    • Won both sets 6-3 in doubles play
  • Semifinals Round
    • Lost to New Mexico State, 4-1
    • Ben Stride notched the lone point in the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 spot
