Roos Close-Out Fall Campaign At ITA Central Region Championship

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC men’s tennis team wrapped-up their 2018 fall season with the ITA Central Region Championship in Tulsa, Okla.

For the Roos, Tom Kruse picked up a pair of wins, beating Oral Roberts’ Kenneth Boykin, 6-3, 6-1 and Drake’s Bayo Phillips, 6-1, 6-4, while losing to Tulsa’s Majed Kilani, 6-1, 6-2.

Diego Giraldo won 7-6, 6-3 over Wichita State’s Austin Williams before falling to Arkansas’ Adam Sanjurjo, 6-3, 6-2.

Ben Stride fell to Minnesota’s Justin Levin 6-3, 6-1, Anil Patel lost to Arkansas’ Jose Alonso, 6-2, 6-0, Hunter Clark lost to Iowa’s Oliver Onkonkwo, Neil O’Connor lost to Oklahoma State’s Maxim Tybar, 7-6, 6-3, Josh McDermott fell to Omaha’s Nathan Reekie, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 and Daniel Izadifar fell to Omaha’s Matt Dunn, 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, Clark and Kruse fell to North Dakota’s Callegari and Carmichael, 8-7, while Izadifar and O’Connor went down Tulsa’s Kilani and Pearson, 8-3 and Giraldo and Stride lost to Iowa’s Okonkwo and Davies, 8-5.

McDermott and Patel, meanwhile, lost to Saint Louis’ duo of Badaiants and Yanaba, 8-4.

The Roos will be back in action again on Jan. 25 when they host William Jewell.
