DENVER, Colo. – Seven UMKC tennis players received All-Western Athletic Conference Tournament honors after the Roos won both the men's and women's tournament championships on April 30.
Each Roos team had four All-Tournament honorees. On the women's side, Katie Fries (Overland Park, Kan.), Mariam Kurasbediani (Tbilsi, Georgia), Aliona Ladutska (Minsk, Belarus) and Thanushree Vale (Chennai, India) all received the recognition in singles play.
On the men's team, Mike Psarros (Athens, Greece) earned the honor in both singles and doubles play. Amaury Navette (Paris, France) was named to the singles team while Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) joined his teammate Psarros in doubles competition.
For the first time in UMKC history, both the men's and women's tennis squads are headed to the NCAA Championships. Both teams were selected to the Stillwater Regional to face host Oklahoma State. The appearance in the NCAA Tournament is the first for the men's team since joining the WAC and the women's selection is the first ever in program history.
The Roos men play OSU Friday at 1 p.m. CT while the women will compete Saturday at 12 p.m. CT at the Greenwood Tennis Center, one of the elite venues in all of college tennis.
