KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC men’s tennis (6-5) was defeated 6-1 by Wichita State (8-6) Friday afternoon at the Plaza Tennis Center. Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) was credited with a victory in No. 1 singles to provide the only point for the Roos.

Castellano dropped the first set 6-7 but rebounded to win the second set 6-3 before Miroslav Herzan had to retire. Uldis Gaismins (Riga, Latvia) fell 7-5, 6-3 to Jocelyn Devilliers in No. 2 singles. Amaury Navette (Paris, France) was beaten 7-6 (7-2), 6-0 by Eddie Stoica on the No. 3 court. Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) dropped a 6-0, 6-3 decision in No. 4 play to Marius Frosa. Mike Psarros (Athens, Greece) fell 6-4, 6-2 to Murkel Dellien in the No. 5 match. Vinh Pham (Lenexa, Kan.) was bested 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 6 contest against Jan Poboril.  

Castellano and Psarros won 7-6 (7-3) over Devilliers and Stoica on the No. 1 doubles court. Gaismins and Navette fell 6-4 to Dellien and Frosa in the No. 2 match. Pham and Daniel Izadifar (Tonsberg, Norway) dropped the No. 3 contest by the same score.

The Roos return to action when they begin WAC play against UT Rio Grande Valley and Grand Canyon on March 24-25 in Phoenix, Arizona.
