Kruse Named WAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

DENVER, Colo. – UMKC men’s tennis freshman Tom Kruse (Flensburg, Germany) earned Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. Kruse, who joined the team mid-year, went 2-0 in singles last week and was 2-1 in doubles play.

In Friday’s 5-2 victory over Omaha, Kruse clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-6 (10-1) win on the No. 4 singles court. He also won the following day in the No. 4 singles match at Nebraska, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Kruse was leading 6-0, 2-0 in No. 4 singles vs. South Dakota State on Sunday when the match was clinched his Roos teammates.

On the No. 2 doubles court, Krused paired with Airam Castellano (Gran Canaria, Spain) for a 6-4 victory Friday vs. the Mavericks and a 6-2 win Sunday against the Jackrabbits. The duo lost a close 7-5 contest Saturday against the Huskers.

Both UMKC tennis programs travel to Northwest Missouri State on Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. CT.
