About the Roos

UMKC opened the 2017 season at the Belmont Winter Fest Tournament in Nashville, Tenn., last weekend. In the Roos’ 4-2 victory over UMBC, sophomore Maegan Rollow (Broken Arrow, Okla.) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs while junior Kelsey Goodwin (Broken Arrow, Okla.) contributed two hits in four at-bats.

Junior outfielder Kendra Leach (Easton, Kan.) and sophomore infielder Bri Sims (Rowlett, Texas) were each named to the 2017 Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference team in a poll by the league’s coaches.

Sims, a 2016 All-WAC first team selection, returns to the field for UMKC this season with second-team members Goodwin and Morgan Byrn (Lawrence, Kan.). The Roos finished 24-26 overall and 10-5 in the WAC in 2016.
