LAREDO, Texas - With a five-over par 869 (282-292-295), the UMKC men's golf team completed a three-round effort at the Border Olympics on the Laredo Country Club. Overall, the Roos took 10th out of 16 teams, two strokes back of ninth-place Oral Roberts University.
"This was a disappointing week for us after getting off to a strong start," said UMKC men's golf coach J.W. VanDenBorn. "We jumped out and held the team lead for much of round one and then couldn't keep or get anything going after that. We're just making too many big mistakes on scoring holes. We have some work to do but there were some positive signs including a solid week from Francois Lagraulet. I'm excited to get back at it again in a couple days in Phoenix."
Senior Francois Lagraulet was the highlight of the UMKC squad shooting a 3-under par 213 (71-73-69). That effort got him a tie for 14th place overall. Lagraulet tied for the best par-five score going 9-under overall for an average of 4.25 on all par-five holes.
Sophomore Vitek Novak had the best one-round score for the Roos firing a five-under 67 during the first round on Monday. He ended his tournament with a two-over par 218 (67-74-77) to finish in a tie for 31st.
UMKC was one of only four teams in the event to notch multiple eagles with two.
Zan Luka Stirn of Arkansas State won individual medalist honors with a 12-under par 204 (68-65-71).
Arkansas State also won the team championship with a 29-under total of 835 (275-270-290).
