VALENTINE, Neb. – Francois Lagraulet (Bordeaux, France) sits one shot off the lead at -7 with an opening round 65 for the UMKC men’s golf team in the Jackrabbit Invitational at The Prairie Club.
Starting on the back nine, the Frenchman birdied the par-5’s of No. 10 and No. 18 and the par-4’s of No. 12 and No. 18. Lagraulet made it back-to-back birdies with his fifth of the day on No. 1 and went back-to-back again on Nos. 5 and 6. After his lone bogey on No. 8, the junior closed out the round on a high note with his eighth birdie on No. 9.
Fellow Frenchman Paul Foulquie (Paris, France), meanwhile carded the Roos next lowest score with a 70 in the first round of play to rank tied for 26th heading into round two. On the day, Foulquie tallied birdies on No. 5 and No. 9, while eagling the par-5 of No. 3.
On shot back of him is McCain Schellhardt (Edmond, Okla.) who sits at -1 in a tie for 34th after notching two birdies in the opening round.
Sam Humphreys (Edmond, Okla) is tied for 68th at +3 entering round two as he also notched back-to-back birdies on Nos. 5 and 6, while Taylor Larsen (Garden City, Kan.) is tied for 76th at +5, registering his lone birdie on No. 1.
Raphael Lapierre-Messier (Quebec, Canada) joined the club as an individual and sits in a tie for 80th at +6 with two birdies on the day.
As a team, the Roos currently sit tied with UCF in sixth spot at -7, while Santa Clara holds the team lead at -23, ten shots better than Kansas. The Broncos Hayden Shieh holds the individual lead at -8.
The Blue & Gold continue play tomorrow morning when they tee-off in round two at 9 a.m. CT.
