LAFAYETTE, La. - The UMKC men's golf team got off to a successful start to the 2019 spring season with a top-five finish at the 34th Annual Louisiana Classics. In the two-day, three-round event that occurred Monday and Tuesday, the Roos carded a 19-over total of 883 (296-302-285) to take fifth-place out of 15 Division I teams at the Oakbourne Country Club. Described as a tree-line, picturesque shot-makers course, the Oakbourne CC provided numerous challenges for the golfers.
Beginning the second day in eighth place, the Roos moved their way up thanks to great scores from senior Francois Lagraulet, junior McCain Schellhardt and sophomore Maxence Catherine. Lagraulet stroked a team-low score of 68 in the final round, which was four-under 72 par. Schellhardt was one-under on the day and finished with a UMKC-low score of 218 (75-72-71). With an even score today, Catherine used 39 pars on the course to post a total of 222 (72-78-72).
With his 39 pars, Catherine ranked No. 4 (tie) for the most even holes in the event.
Blake Elliott of McNeese State won overall individual medalist honors with a 5-under total of 211 (75-68-68).
McNeese State won the team event with a one-under tally of 863 (290-291-282).
The course was a par-72 at 6,866 yards.
