UMKC in Third After Opening Round of WAC Championship

MESA, Ariz. – UMKC men's golf shot a collective 298 (+14) Friday and is in third place following the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship at Longbow Golf Club. The Roos are eight shots back of tournament-leading Seattle U and three strokes behind Utah Valley. Hubert Tisserand (Lyon, France) is tied for fourth individually, three shots back from the lead.

Tisserand birdied three of the first six holes and finished with four birdies on the afternoon. Sam Humphreys (Edmond, Okla.) shot a 74 (+3) and notched two birdies in a 5-hole stretch during the middle of the round. He is tied for 11th individually.

McCain Schellhardt (Edmond, Okla.) carded a 76 (+5) that included three birdies, including two straight on the seventh and eighth holes. He is in a tie for 20th. Thibault Vieilledent (Cannes, France) shot 77 (+6). He notched seven consecutive pars to begin the round and knocked down a birdie put on the 15th hole. Jakob Garstecki (Germantown, Wis.) finished with a 79 (+8) and made 11 pars.

Kyle Cornett of Seattle U holds a 1-shot individual lead at 3-under par. Mike McGilton of New Mexico State and Hayden Webb of Grand Canyon are both one shot back.
