KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (25-20) dropped a pair of road contests on Tuesday at former league rival South Dakota (31-18) at Nygaard Field in Vermillion, S.D.
In the opener, the Coyotes picked up a 5-4 victory despite three hits, including a triple, two RBIs and a run from Sydney Garcia and two hits from both Chyanne Onstad and Alexis D’Ambrosio, with Onstad notching two RBIs and D’Ambrosio scoring two runs.
In the game, USD struck first with three in the first, but UMKC battled back to tie the game with three of their own in the top of the second.
South Dakota pushed the lead back to two with a pair of runs in the third, while UMKC was only able to add a single run in the fourth, falling 5-4.
In the late game, USD scored three in the fourth and two in the fifth to build a 5-0 lead, while the Roos plated their only run in the seventh on a single to left from D.J. Cannon, knocking in D’Ambrosio.
In the game, D’Ambrosio and Onstad each picked up two more hits.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action on Tuesday when they welcome in instate rival Missouri State for a 3 p.m. CT game at Urban Youth Academy on Apr. 23.
