KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The UMKC softball team (2-2) splits its two games on day two of the Total Sports Control Invitational, knocking-off IUPUI, 12-5, before falling to DePaul, 2-1 on Saturday at the Rosemont Dome in Rosemont, Ill.

Against the Jaguars, the Roos had an offensive flurry, led by Sydney Garcia who finished 5-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and a double.

IUPUI scored first in the bottom of the second, but, after two scoreless innings, the Roos grabbed the lead with a three-run third on a three-run homerun by Chyanne Onstad.

IUPUI tied the game in the fourth and, after the Roos plated one in the fifth, reclaimed the lead at 5-4 with a two-run fifth.

In the sixth, however, UMKC went back in front, as Lia Lombardini blasted a two-run home run, highlighting the three-run inning.

The Roos never looked back, tacking on five more runs in the seventh, leading to the victory.

As a team, the Roos finished with 17 hits, including seven extra base hits.

Against DePaul, the Blue Demons struck first on an RBI single in the first off Roo starter Kailyn Packard.

After four scoreless innings, DePaul tacked on its second run in the sixth, while the Roos pushed across their first run of the game in the bottom half of the inning when Onstad doubled to right and Lombardini followed with a double of her own, scoring pinch runner, Ashley Thorne.

UMKC, however, was unable to tie the contest as DePaul won 2-1.

Packard finished the game going seven innings, allowing just four hits, while striking out four.

Garcia and Lombardini, meanwhile, each collected two hits.

The Blue & Gold will be back in action again tomorrow when they take on Western Illinois at 9 a.m. CT.
