UMKC marches into the weekend after a tough showing in the Madeira Beach Invitational two weekends ago. After a dominant 12-0 run rule victory of Eastern Michigan, the Roos dropped their remaining four contests in the event including a pair of close one-run losses to Abilene Christian and UNC Greensboro.
Junior outfielder Maegan Rollow (Broken Arrow, Okla.) has gotten off to a hot start offensively in the early portion of the 2018 schedule. She leads the team in batting average (.400), on-base percentage (.500) and is tied for the team-lead in hits with 10. Rollow has also put her ability to work the gaps, leading UMKC with three doubles and .520 slugging percentage that ranks second on the squad.
Preseason All-WAC selection Kelsey Goodwin (Broken Arrow, Okla.) has been a major run-producer for the Roos, accounting for a team-leading 10 RBI’s through the first 10 games of the season. Her first home run of the 2018 season came last weekend in the top of the seventh to tie the game against UNC Greensboro added Goodwin to the list of four Roos with home runs this year.
Olivia Fluehr (Loves Park, Ill.) has proven to be a quality addition to the UMKC program in her early performances. Offensively, she leads the team with two home runs and trails only Goodwin in the RBI department with seven. In the circle, Fluehr has appeared in a team-high eight games and is tied for a team-best 4.40 era in 20.2 innings of work.
Senior pitcher Lynsey Conner (Peggs, Okla.) will look to get back on track after an up and down weekend in Florida. Her dominant five-inning shutout performance against Eastern Michigan was followed up with a pair of starts that saw Conner allow nine runs over 7.2 innings of work. UMKC will need their team leader in wins to return to form against the stiff competition that lies ahead in the Red and Blue Classic.
Following the Blues City Classic, UMKC will host Creighton (7-2) for a single-game matchup on Tuesday, Mar. 6 at 1 p.m. in the first home contest at Urban Youth Academy. The team will then travel to nearby Lawrence, Kan., for a pair of tournaments the following two weekends.
