DENVER – Following a stellar junior campaign, UMKC softball’s Kelsey Goodwin (Broken Arrow, Okla.) was named to the 2018 Western Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference team, the league announced on Wednesday. Additionally, the Roos were picked to finish fifth in the WAC by the league’s coaches.
Goodwin, a senior infielder, put together a strong 2017 season in which she slashed .353/.418/.463, including seven doubles, a pair of home runs and 15 runs batted in. The Oklahoma native started in 44 of the team’s 55 games last year.
Her .353 batting average and .418 on-base percentage both ranked among the top-10 in the WAC in 2017. In conference play, Goodwin was even more dominant as a fixture in the UMKC lineup, slashing a superb .364/.431/.432 in 44 at-bats against WAC foes.
After compiling a 5-10 conference record this past season, the Roos were tabbed to finish fifth for a second consecutive year in the WAC standings.
