The following is the eighth installment of “Roos Introducing Roos,” a multi-part series introducing the UMKC softball newcomers as told by a returning member of the squad. Noteworthy facts about head coach Meredith Smith Neal's latest additions will be unveiled on a weekly basis as the team approaches the 2018 season.
I am happy to introduce freshman McKenzie Harrish from Leawood, Kansas! McKenzie is the daughter of Angie and Joe Harrish. She has a younger brother, Kane and younger sister, Arissa. Lola, their dog, is a big part of their family as well. Off the softball field, she loves to spend time with friends, shop at Forever 21 and watch movies, especially Rom-Coms. McKenzie loves to visit Florida, or anywhere there is a beach! In the summer you can catch Kenzie at Kauffman Stadium because she is a big Royals fan and goes to games with her friends and family often. She loves all food but her favorite meal has to be steak. You can always catch her with a coffee in her hand on the way to class!
McKenzie attended Blue Valley North High School where she played softball all four years. She is an outfielder and right handed hitter bringing speed offensively and defensively. Besides softball, McKenzie was a part of basketball and cross country for two years at North. She was also a member of National Honor Society.
She played competitive softball for Mac ‘N’ Seitz over the last three years. Her favorite softball memory was playing in the power pool of the Triple Crown Firework tournament in Colorado the summer of 2016. McKenzie loves being close with her teammates and definitely could feel the family atmosphere when she visited UMKC. McKenzie chose to attend UMKC because the close team chemistry, great academic programs and being close to home. Her love for softball and school is a great mix here. She is majoring in Mechanical Engineering. McKenzie is looking forward to playing and being a part of the Roo family!
